While wolves once roamed from Mexico to the Arctic, today many North American subspecies are listed as endangered or threatened. Numerous factors contribute to the unstable numbers, including disappearing habitat, diminishing prey and illegal killing of these apex predators who are so important to nature’s balance. The Karner Blue Butterfly also teeters on survival in North America. In some regions it has now completely disappeared. The little Wolf Pup playing with this butterfly reminds us of the tenuous balance of our natural world. These playmates rely on the same designations to survive - healthy environments carefully protected and properly conserved.
