These roly-poly balls of fun frolic in the snow or amongst tangles of bamboo shoots defying a cruel reality. A Giant Panda’s ability to sustain itself and its species is perplexing in nature or in captivity. Females are truly fertile for just 24-36 hours once a year. Captive breeding practices in the 1950’s required 8 years before the first captive birth in China. By some accounts over 600 captive pandas exist now globally which increases the odds of success. So, their playful nature persists, as long as profound levels of support continue.
