As a native Texan who has traveled many times to Africa over the years, I’ve personally witnessed the devastation that uncontrolled bushfires have on wildlife and their habitat. Raging wildfires break out often due to lack of rain and campfires. In this painting, I wanted to capture the chaos and destruction that results from a bushfire and its impact on a group of endangered rhinos. I found the topic fits well with a painting style I’ve developed to achieve the desired brush strokes. This results in as many as 20 layers of thick paint and thin layers of glazes.
