The Southern Muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides) is a critically endangered primate of Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Both the southern and the northern muriquis are the largest primates of the Americas. It is estimated at this time that only 66 individuals exist due to the significant amount of destruction and deforestation the Atlantic Forest has suffered over the last 500 years.
