Blue and gold macaws are some of the largest, most colorful, gregarious parrots found in rainforest canopies from Panama and into most of tropical South America. Unfortunately, they are now subject to what some biologists refer to as “local extinction” where the habitat and the rainforest canopy, has been greatly diminished due to deforestation. You can help protect these beautiful macaws in your own home by using recycled paper products and making sure to recycle aluminum cans, since both of these resources come from the Amazon and can contribute to deforestation.
