Even for a four time world champion interpretive carver, and Living Legend recipient, a very dense cedar burl was a challenge to carve. Always allowing the wood itself to direct me, the Wasp is carved from the original burl. Though often scorned, wasps are an essential part of our natural world. They also have great architectural skills. While researching wasps, I found many different colored ones. Many different finishes were hand applied to the sculpture.
