Inspired by a visit to Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary for sick, injured, and orphaned koalas, I was fortunate to get close to a few of the resident koalas. I met Maree, featured in this painting. She was a favourite: a sweet natured, female Koala with beautiful eyes. Maree was hit by a car and suffered a head injury, permanent eyesight loss, and damage to her frontal lobe. She now tends to turn in circles when on the ground. So, she cannot be released back into the wild. I added a Wanderer Butterfly to accompany Maree as both are attracted to the sweet scent of the Gum blossoms - we don't always need our sight to appreciate the "Sweet Things" in life.
