While in Moss Landing, CA, I was fortunate enough to go out on a Marine Safari on the Elkhorn Slough which meanders seven miles inland from the coast in the center of Monterey Bay. The slough has a high concentration of Southern Sea Otters along with several other mammals, migratory birds, fish and plant life. I was able to photograph lots of the sea otters. This artwork was created from one of the many photos I took, while visiting the slough. At one time the sea otters were on the verge of extinction but their numbers now recovering, once it became illegal to hunt them. As far as I’m concerned, the sea otters are truly a treasure of the Elkhorn slough, hence the title of this piece.
