Countless birds migrate annually to the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge in Northern California and I make an annual pilgrimage to experience this wonder of nature. I have spent many happy hours sketching, photographing, and just observing the myriad birds as they rest on their journey south. Patches of snow in the distant fields materialize into thousands of birds on closer observation- an entire universe of creatures living their complex lives on the edge of human encroachment.
