The Blue Ostrich represents the largest avian species in existence. They can grow up to 9 feet tall and up to 320 pounds. The ostrich is losing its habitat and is both hunted and farmed for its meat (and eggs). The ostrich is not yet endangered, but the numbers are declining. The lower numbers are represented here by “lost edges". My focus in the painting is on the ostriches’ eyes. At two inches in diameter, they are the largest eyes of any land animal. I have used blue simply because I like the effect.
