‘Resurgam’, latin for ‘I shall rise again’, is a sad, yet hopeful nod to the whale shark’s current status on the endangered species list. I initially wanted to create something evocative, heartbreaking; drawing attention to the vulnerability of marine species at the hands of human interference. However, I still hold out hope for a restored marine ecosystem and so this idea slowly transmuted into more of a hopeful and symbolic piece. ‘Resurgam’, for me, represents the revival of the species; moving from the darkness into the light.
