Unknown to most people these graceful and majestic animals are undergoing a silent extinction. It may come as a shock that three of the nine subspecies are now considered ‘Critically Endangered’ or ‘Endangered’. Giraffe numbers have dropped by almost 30% over the last three decades leaving only one giraffe for every four African elephants in the wild. The inspiration for this piece came from a photo by my dear friend Jeroen Tiggelman.
