I just adore baby elephants, their hair, wrinkles and expression are hard to top in the cuteness department. I love the way they play, sometimes even trip over their own trunks until they learn what they are for. I worry about them, too, as they are in trouble everywhere. Their numbers are in decline. They might become extinct in the wild. They need room to roam and a whole lot to eat. I painted this little baby Indian Elephant in a playful mood, but contrasted it with the darkness of the background, which gives it a rich chiaroscuro.
