Temple Sparrow was inspired during an art tour to China with Artists for Conservation. While there, I was privileged and excited to work with school children on their conservation project constructing bird nest boxes. These compassionate young stewards were eager to work on saving their environment instead of dominating it, as occurred in the decimating policies of previous regimes. Nature can be tenuous and the tenacity of the Eurasian Tree Sparrow to survive further inspired me by the juxtaposition of this once persecuted bird building its home among the intricate, man-made architecture and guardians of an ancient Chinese temple.
