Nuthatches belong to the Sittidae family, and are one of my favorite birds! I love the way they forage for their food, up-side down mostly. The sun on the moss was why I chose to draw this little guy, and to challenge myself to make the moss jump off the page. Although no critical endangerment to the overall species, deforestation has caused population declines for many of the Nuthatch family.
