The Williams River near Fosterton NSW was where I found the inspiration for this painting. Rainbow Bee Eaters were dipping down to grab insects and bees as they took a cool sip of moisture from river rocks. The smooth quiet flow of the river ripples around the rocks and river debris captivated me, and I wondered how I could paint this. I set out to make the image as much about the environment as it is the bird.
