Arctic Hares are a crucial link in the supply chain of Arctic predators and thus of paramount importance in the natural balance. Even though they are not endangered, population fluctuations in Arctic hares have a rippling effect all the way up the food chain. Summer is a time of plenty for them. This one, near Uummannaq in Greenland, is busy eating Arctic willow, and may move over to the yellow Arctic poppies next. Hares are quite large with big feet and ears, and are pretty humorous to watch in groups, hopping and jumping up on their hind feet to see farther ahead.
