I have a personal love for this iconic animal that is, among others, becoming a species of concern due to depleting salmon stocks, pesticides killing their other food sources and loss of habitat. A bear plays an important role in sustaining the ecosystem. When we think of a bear’s diet we think of fish and berries. When a bear drags a fish into the forest it provides nitrogen in the soil required for healthy plants. When a bear eats vegetation and berries, their seeds are inadvertently replanted and spread throughout the forest through their scat. They also keep their mammal prey in check. Since they are always on the move, this prevents certain animals from grazing and overeating vegetation in one spot. Simply put, they maintain balance. I have another composition ready and am excited to bring it to life.
