Every year bears are killed on train tracks. Studies have shown that there are various attractants for the bears to the tracks such as grain spilled from rail cars to berries that grow abundantly alongside of tracks. Even without those attractants tracks serve like roadways as easy methods of travel. Wildlife being killed by modes of transportation is not new or limited to train tracks and measures have been taken to repair leaking grain cars, reduce vegetation along the tracks, and put electromats at specific locations to deter bears.
