Red squirrels are incredible tree animals found across Europe and Asia. It is fascinating to watch them climb, jump and having a relaxed meal between two branches, just like the scene in my artwork. Nuts and acorns make up the majority of their diet, and when they find plenty of food, they will also store it high up in treetops. Their red copper coat and bushy tails are unique and beautiful and make them blend into their environment in complete harmony. Unfortunately, the numbers of red squirrels have drastically decreased in Great Britain, Ireland and Italy. I love painting in this detailed and realistic way because it creates a strong connection between the viewer and the image by making you look more closely. I feel that this kind of intimate look also helps us discover details we might not have been aware of before. With the sale of my artwork and prints, I will support conservation efforts and education programs for the protection of red squirrels and their natural habitats.
