I was inspired to paint cranes after discovering that almost all of the world’s 15 crane species are threatened or endangered. A lot of my conservation efforts are around wetlands, where many crane species tend to congregate. The two cranes in my painting are starting to engage in their legendary mating dance. This is a mixed media piece incorporating acrylic paints and hand painted Japanese washi papers. Like all my paintings, it is highly textured and semi-abstract and attempts to capture something that will inspire viewers to connect more deeply with the majesty of the natural world.
