I had taken a powerful reference image of a Golden Eagle. I had sketched and painted it a few times already but I knew it had more potential. I wanted to do a large piece. I knew where the eagle would be positioned on the canvas for a good composition, but I was still unsure of the background. As the virus started to shut down facilities and we were asked to shelter in place, I was separated from family members, especially my granddaughters of whom I watch and care for when needed. It was at this time that I realized that the scene of an approaching storm would be the background for this eagle. We all are the eagle and we all face uncertainties. We need to take it one day at a time and face the storm head on as it comes. “Facing the Storm” was my way of coping with this uncertain time. It represents our inner strength.
