I grew up watching magpies. They were literally everywhere in our small Colorado town. Their entertaining and gregarious behavior made them a family favorite. I finally got around to painting one and really enjoyed the memories that painting this bird brought back to me. The challenge of this painting was enjoyable, mostly because there were so many small leaves to solve. The time investment in the plant was literally three times that of the work in the bird, which I found interesting. I hope the viewer will see the unique beauty of the magpie, and will be inspired to learn more about it and many of the other birds all around us.
