Wall color:
How important one little bird is to forest health! By spreading seeds of the endangered whitebark pine that are more resistant to destructive bark beetles and blister rust, the actions of the Clark’s Nutcracker lead to a healthier forest. The whitebark pine is critical to holding snowpack and regulating snowmelt, which in turn affects the water supply downslope. By depicting one of our winged saviours in a precarious position, I sought to remind us of the fragile interconnectedness of nature.
