“Safe Haven” Eastern Quolls
These little carnivorous marsupials are to me the most endearing and beautiful of our Australian species. I have been fortunate to be given access to observe and photograph these at Aussie Ark in the Barrington Tops where a conservation program is underway to protect the species. You have to be prepared for their fast movements to take clear enough reference photos. They once inhabited south east mainland Australia, but are now confined to Tasmania and typically like open woodland with clear grassy areas and hollow logs for their den. A very typical trait of the quoll is to stand erect to look around as I have portrayed in this painting.
