A Numbat mother with her offspring is roaming through dead eucalyptus wood in search of termites. In 2011 my friends and I visited Western Australia and have had the great luck to see a Numbat in his natural environment, Dryandra Woodland State Forest. Nobody knows how many of these rare little marsupials survived the mega-bushfires that destroyed a great part of the continents surface in the last summer.
