I’ve amassed an enormous pile of reference on lions after many trips to Africa. They never fail to amaze, impress, and inspire me, and I never tire of depicting them in as many mediums as I can. I remember this male lion, laying under a thorn bush, idly keeping an eye on two of his lionesses and their cubs. I liked the confident, almost sultry look in his eyes. He had nothing to fear with all the world at his feet. He looked every inch a king, and the ultimate in feline power and grace.
