This is a portrait of an individual, who has the right to life and freedom from harm. He’s an orangutan whose trainers named him ‘Jam.’ The stories of Jam and other non-human primates are inextricably linked with our own, and like ours, are filled with both loss and hope. Jam was born at a Hollywood entertainment compound. His trainers decided to stop working great apes when he was three years old, so he was sent to the Center for Great Apes sanctuary in Florida. It was there that he was reunited with his mother, Geri.
