This beautiful bear is based upon a gorgeous bear that lived out his days in New York, under the care of a wildlife rescue I work with. His small but soulful eyes, and his beautiful face and kind soft gestures always reminded me that there is still so much in our connection to nature that we do not understand. Growing up in the Rocky Mountain ranges, I would wander quite far from home as a child, and then more so as I grew. I saw hundreds of bears, mostly black bears, but were I ever to see a
grizzly my breath would come entirely short from their power and greatness.
When you consider that I encountered so many bears, and never suffered so much as a scratch, it is a great wonder that we find them so beastly, and not the other way around. This bear was layered with trees upon trees upon trees, because that is my wish for them, and with aged and ruined paper, because that is how fragile their coexistence can be with us. This was layered with an eco epoxy.
