This past winter we saw the lowest cycle of Ptarmigans in nearly 30 years. This extremely low cycle is actually a natural part of their life. Each October we look forward to the ptarmigans return to Yellowknife to winter. They have some favourite hangout spots, the number one preference being in the willow bushes. After only seeing about ten of them over the whole winter I, for one, am looking forward to their numbers increasing over the next few years.
