Since reading the book called Solo, The History of an African Wild Dog by Hugo Van Lawick, many years ago, I have always wanted to see an African Wild Dog. Knowing that they have disappeared from much of their former range and knowing they also travel long distances when hunting, meant the chance of seeing one on a safari, would be slim. I was fortunate enough to meet another AFC member, Walt Anderson, who led trips to Tanzania. The trip also included a visit to Mkomazi N.P. and permission to visit the wild dog breeding facility there. How could I not be enticed to go? Seeing the dogs was special and painting them was a must.
