Yellow-headed Amazon, Yellow-headed Parrot
Amazona oratrix by Kim Middleton(8 in. x 8 in. | Oil | ID#3630)
Family: PSITTACIDAE | Conservation Status: Endangered | Population Trend: decreasing
Yellow-headed Amazon parrots live in the coastal lowlands on both coasts of Mexico and in Belize. The population has seen drastic decline in recent years due to habitat disturbance and fragmentation and the parrot being taken from the wild for the pet trade. I used a photo of a captive bred parrot. Since the amount of yellow on the head varies greatly, I decided to add more yellow to cover the head.
