The White-eared Night Heron is mostly nocturnal, found in southern China and northern Vietnam in tropical and subtropical forests and rivers. Feeding on shrimp and invertebrates they are threatened by water pollution and over fishing as well as hunting and deforestation. Though improved from very rare and listed as Critically Endangered in the 1990’s, the population is small and declining so is still considered Endangered with an estimated population of maybe 1500.
