Artist Statement
This an amazing bird, indeed. Although there are many study skins and mounted specimens, there is perhaps only one photograph of an alive adult bird which was captive, young and poorly kept. Many renderings have been made in the last 200 or so years, but it was hard to know which of a variety of characteristics to choose when creating this portrait of a critically endangered bird; a close relative of the extinct Dodo Bird is also a sad reminder.
