Artist Statement
The Socorro Mockingbird is a large, stocky mockingbird of the island of Socorro, south of Baja California. Its habitat was severely degraded when sheep were introduced to the island. In addition, the bird is reluctant to fly, which is a problem when it comes in contact with the introduced ferrel cats.
