Artist Statement
Critically endangered, this stunning bird is found on the island of La Digue in the beautiful island nation of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. Sinking beneath the waves and habitat loss due to tourism and settlement. However, according to Wikipedia the bird has been populated on Denis Island free from predation and is surviving. Another delight to the watercolour medium, allowing harmony of pigment and flow using my favourite Indigo, dropping in some iridescence, opera rose and pthalo blue, softening edges and allowing the hills and valleys of the paper to dictate granulation - utterly fascinating, utterly devastating to learn how few of these amazing birds are struggling to survive man.
