Family: PSITTACIDAE | Conservation Status: Endangered | Population Trend: decreasing
Artist Statement
The Santarem Parakeet is endemic to a small region of eastern Amazonian Brazil. Listed as endangered in 2014, the species populations suspected to be rapidly declining due to both deforestation in the Amazon basin as land is cleared for cattle ranching and soy production, and the beautiful parrot's potential susceptibility to trapping for the bird trade.
