Artist Statement
At 4500 metres in a small polylepis forest in Peru, we saw the Royal Cinclodes singing to its mate. As excruciating as the hike was, we were all excited to see this rare bird. As you stood and watched, the inevitable hit you. When the forest was gone, so was the future for this species. It was the first bird I had seen on the endangered list and that moment is not forgotten. I decided to paint it on a Royal Throne with its own monogram.
