Psophia dextralis by Russ Heselden(8 in. x 8 in. | Oil on board | ID#4103)
Family: PSOPHIIDAE | Conservation Status: Endangered | Population Trend: decreasing
Very little is known about the Olive-winged Trumpeter, including how many of them remain; what we do know is that they are declining as a result of cattle ranching, soy production, hunting and the construction of roads through their rainforest habitat. They are a bird of the dense forest, where their sombre plumage allows them to blend in well. I wanted to capture that in this 'Silent Skies' painting, so I have restricted myself to a muted palette of browns and greens.
