Artist Statement

The Nukuhiva Pigeon is a very large pigeon endemic to the island of Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. Its numbers have been reduced by hunting as well as habitat destruction and introduced species. The numbers are very small and some birds have been translocated to the nearby island of Ua Huka, where they have had some success.
