Artist Statement
This bird was relatively difficult to paint as most of my research photos seem to come out as silhouettes against the sheen on the water. They are also hard to distinguish between the other species however the New Zealand storm petrel has a mottled belly,it skips across the water much like a butterfly. When I was a boy while sailing with my family my father used to refer to them as "mother carries chickens"
