New Caledonian Lorikeet
Charmosyna diadema by Kim Toft(8 in. x 8 in. | Hand Painted Silk | ID#3715)
Family: PSITTACIDAE | Conservation Status: Critically Endangered | Population Trend: unknown
Native to New Caledonia, these birds are small and very hard to spot, also hard to track as they are nomadic. Their rapid decline was the result of the introduction of cats and rats to the island and habitat loss. They are listed as critically endangered and it is estimated that there are less than 50 individuals in the wild.
