Artist Statement

Another handsome Pigeon from the Phillipines that little is known about. lt's estimated the population sits around 600- 1700 birds, with low numbers due to habitat loss in the Mindoro highlands where it makes it's home at about 1000 ft. l wanted to create a lifelike portrait showing the bird as you might see it, in a sunny canopy of leaves, a sort of "take your breath away" moment we all get when we see a new bird for the first time. Since no photos existed of the actual pigeon, l enjoyed creating a visual picture that records the beauty of this endangered bird.
