Artist Statement

The loss of biodiversity is a crisis for humanity. This indicates that humans are disturbing the biome far beyond its ability to heal itself. The disturbances come from pollution, overuse, direction destruction and many other insults. We cannot continue without ultimately destroying ourselves. There are only about 200 Malherbe's parakeets left in the wild. They were widespread on New Zealand in the 19th century but due mainly to the introduction of new species this species is now hanging on by a thread.
