The Juan Fernandez Firecrown is decreasing in numbers and is found on the Juan Fernandez Archipelago, off the coast of Chile. They are on the endangered list due to habitat loss and introduction of non-native predators, herbivores, and plant species. With this unique hummingbird, the males are a reddish brown with a vibrant golden "crown" while the females are a vibrant white and blue color. They had been mistaken for different species until they were found nesting on the same nest.
