Artist Statement

The Ibadan Malimbe is one of two endangered African weavers in the Genus Malimbus. Paying homage to my scientific illustration background, I chose to paint them in a style reminiscent of historical natural history plates, taking inspiration from a plate showing the female and male of a different weaver species. The Ibadan Malimbe is endemic to SW Nigeria.
