Artist Statement

It was an exhilarating experience to watch these birds gliding over the tumultuous seas of the Southern Ocean - over the crests, into the troughs and soaring up again. To learn of the aerodynamics over the individual swells which the birds utilise in their flight patterns was quite amazing. This species is the most pelagic of their family, feeding mostly in the deep oceans around the Antarctic Continent, making them probably the most vulnerable to the ever increasing fishing within their habitat.
