Family: PSITTACIDAE | Conservation Status: Critically Endangered | Population Trend: decreasing
Artist Statement
The Gray-breasted parakeet is currently located largely in just one isolated forest on a single hilltop in Brazil. Between habitat loss and poaching for the pet trade, the global population of this species numbers only around 250 individuals. There are conservation efforts underway to reduce poaching, increase reproductive rates and expand the bird’s habitat range. As a natural history artist for conservation, I feel it is my duty to highlight birds, animals and natural phenomena that too often go unnoticed. My goal is to raise awareness for this species and contribute to conservation efforts to save this critically endangered species.
