Artist Statement
The gray-backed hawk (Pseudastur occidentalis) is a species of bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is found in Ecuador and far northern Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. This species has a very small population, which is declining rapidly in response to continuing habitat destruction. Remaining populations are now highly fragmented and most subpopulations are probably extremely small.
