Artist Statement
We have a blue peahen as a pet that someone abandoned, so it was a wonderful experience to find some green peafowl here in Southern California and note the differences. But how sad to know that we humans are the cause of this beautiful, vibrant bird's extinction in the wild. People flock to see these elegant birds strut their stuff at zoos and local ranches while in their native counties they are hunted for their eggs, meat, feathers and considered a nuisance because of their vocalizing.
